M’Hamid is a place of villages, palms and desert-edge livelihoods as well as an excursion base. It should be distinguished from the more remote dunes of Erg Chegaga. The choice of camp or route determines how far beyond the settlement a trip travels.
What to see
Oasis villages, older earthen quarters and the transition into open desert.
What to do
Arrange a local village walk or a supported desert outing with a clearly specified route.
Practical information
Confirm current access, opening arrangements and local conditions before travelling. Use local guides for unfamiliar paths; respect private homes, cultivated land and requests about photography. Accommodation and dining links may refer to your Ouarzazate base or an onward stop; check the address on each listing.
Getting here
Travel south from Zagora via the lower Drâa corridor. Journeys onward to Erg Chegaga require off-road planning and a local operator.
